Over the last few decades, models based on fluid flow and deformation in porous media are getting a lot of attention because these models have wide range of applications in science and engineering. Specifically, Biot’s consolidation model has many applications which cover the range from geoscience to medicine. It is the aim of this talk to present the a posteriori error analysis for locking free mixed finite element method of Biot’s consolidation model. We discuss three novel a posteriori error estimators and show that all three a posteriori error estimators are reliable, efficient and robust. Finally, numerical results are presented to validate the theoretical results.


Dr. Arbaz Khan completed his Ph.D. in applied mathematics from department of mathematics and statistics  at Indian institute of technology Kanpur (IITK), India in February 2015. After completion of his Ph.D., he joined  as an institute postdoc fellow in department of aerospace engineering, IITK, from February 2015 to August 2015. From September 2015 to May 2017, he was working as a Match postdoctoral fellow in Mathematical Methods of  Simulation group in Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR), at Ruprecht-Karls-Universit\”{a}t Heidelberg, Germany.   Currently, he is working as a PDRA  in school of mathematics at university of Manchester, UK from June 2017. His research interests are numerical solution of partial differential equations, h-p finite element/Spectral Element Methods,  Least Squares Method Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) FEM, HDG FEM, Scientific Computing, A Posteriori Error Analysis, Multigrid Method, Parallel Computing, Domain Decomposition, Eigenvalue Problems, Mixed FEM, Numerical Linear Algebra,Uncertainty Quantification, Stochastic Partial Differential Equation.
