Dr. Achintya Kr. Sarkar’s online talk at IISc Bangalore (23 Nov 2021, 02:00pm)

Title: Speaker Recognition in Real-world

Tuesday, 23 November 2021 at 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Speaker recognition (SR) is the task of recognizing a person using his/her voice
sample. It has many applications for authentication including physical and logical access control,
personalized services, and voice assistant technology. My research work focuses on improving
the performance of SR systems for real-world scenarios where the performance is degraded
significantly due to the mismatch between the user’s registration and verification phases. The
contributions of my research include unsupervised representation of speech signals with
deep-learning, incorporation of pass-phrase identification with SR, voice activity detection, and
spoofing countermeasure. In this presentation, I will cover some of my current works towards
broad real-world speaker recognition and plan for the future direction.

Dr. Achintya Kr. Sarkar received the M. Tech. degree (with a Gold
medal) in Instrumentation and Control Engineering from Punjab Technical University, India, in
2006, and a Ph.D. degree from IIT Madras, Chennai, India, in 2011. Prior to this, he was working
on Ph.D. at IIT Kanpur, since 2006. From 2011 to 2017, he was working as a research fellow in
different international laboratories includes Laboratoire Informatique d’Avignon, France,
LIMSI-CNRS, France, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University College
Cork, Ireland, and the Department of Electronic Systems, Aalborg University, Denmark. After
coming back to the country, he served as Dean to Vellore Institute of Technology, AP. Currently,
he is serving in one of the institutes of national importance in our country.
