 \n\n\nABSTRACT:\nThe rapid advancement of generative AI and large language
  models has reshaped the cybersecurity landscape\, enabling both powerful 
 defence mechanisms and sophisticated cyber-attacks such as social engineer
 ing\, malware generation\, fake news\, and autonomous hacking agents. Thes
 e emerging threats highlight the urgent need for trustworthy\, user-friend
 ly\, and robust human authentication across mobile identity\, fintech\, e-
 payments\, healthcare\, and public services. This talk discusses how biome
 tric recognition can address these challenges. It reviews modern approache
 s and recent progress in contactless and hand-based authentication on mobi
 le devices\, emphasizing their potential for secure\, convenient\, and sca
 lable identity verification.\n\nBIOGRAPHY:\nAjay Kumar is a Professor in t
 he Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at The Hong Kong
  Polytechnic University. He received a B.Eng. degree (with first position 
 in the class)\, an M.Eng.\, and a Ph.D. from The University of Hong Kong\,
  Hong Kong\, in 2001. Before joining PolyU\, he served as an Assistant Pro
 fessor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi from 2005 
 to 2007.\nProfessor Kumar’s research focuses on biometrics\, with partic
 ular emphasis on contactless hand biometrics\, vascular biometrics\, iris 
 recognition\, and multimodal biometric systems. He holds seven U.S. patent
 s and has authored two books\, including Contactless 3D Fingerprint Identi
 fication (2018) and Iris and Periocular Recognition using Deep Learning (2
 024). A Fellow of IAPR and IEEE\, he has held several prominent leadership
  roles in the biometrics community\, including President of the IEEE Biome
 trics Council (2021–2022)\, and has served on editorial boards of severa
 l leading journals\, including IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and M
