SUMMARY:CDS-KIAC Weekend Lecture Series: A Gentle Introduction to Large Lan
 guage Models
DESCRIPTION:Professor Danish Pruthi is offering weekend lectures on large l
anguage models\, starting on 8 March 2025\, on three consecutive Saturdays
. All are welcome to attend the lectures! Registration is mandatory. The d
etails are as follows.\n\nDescription of the course: A Gentle Introductio
n to Large Language Models\n\nWe interact with language models and deriva
tes\, such as ChatGPT\, on a daily basis (at times\, unknowingly). Such mo
dels answer the questions we ask\, autocomplete words we are likely to typ
e\, help translate text from languages we don’t know\, and most importan
tly\, complete our assignments and homework.  This short course will gen
tly introduce language models\, starting with N-gram models building all t
he way up to transformers\, and how they are pre-trained and aligned to b
 e safe.\n\n Module 1: N-gram language models\n Module 2: Recurrent neura
 l networks\n Module 3: Transformers\n Module 4: Pre-training\n Module 5
 : Post-training and alignment\n\nDate and time:\n\n08 March 2025 (10:00-11
