SUMMARY:{Cloud Seminar} @ CDS: #102\, Mon 12 Jan\, 4PM: "Learning-Centric\,
Payload and QoS-Aware Function Resource Configuration and Management in S
erverless Computing"\, Siddharth Agarwal\, University of Melbourne
DESCRIPTION:\n\nCLOUD COMPUTING SEMINAR SERIES\n\n\n\nTitle: Learning-Centr
ic\, Payload and QoS-Aware Function Resource Configuration and Management
in Serverless Computing\nSpeaker: Siddharth Agarwal\, University of Melbou
 rne\nDate &amp\; Time: January 12\, 2026 (Monday)\, 4PM\nVenue: CDS 102 Se
 minar Hall\n\n\n\nABSTRACT\n\nServerless computing\, primarily Function-as
 -a-Service (FaaS)\, has surged for cloud-native micro-services by offloadi
ng infrastructure management to the cloud provider\, boosting developer pr
oductivity. FaaS executes small\, stateless\, event-driven functions with
an attractive pay-per-use economic model. However\, FaaS faces performance
challenges like cold starts and auto-scaling bottlenecks. These issues ar
e worsened by the platform's static resource configurations\, forcing deve
lopers into suboptimal choices\, creating a conflict between performance a
nd cost\, and hindering efficient dynamic resource management. This semina
r presents research that aims to address these limitations by exploring le
arning-centric function configuration and management to improve operationa
l cost\, resource utilisation while maintaining acceptable user Quality-of
-Service (QoS).\n\nBIOGRAPHY\n\nSiddharth Agarwal is a recent PhD graduate
from the University of Melbourne\, Australia\, where he was a member of t
he Cloud Computing and Distributed Systems (CLOUDS) Laboratory. Supervised
by Professor Rajkumar Buyya and Dr. Maria Rodriguez\, his doctoral resear
ch focused on optimising Serverless computing (FaaS) environments using AI
/ML-driven resource management. He is a recipient of the Melbourne Researc
h Scholarship for his Doctoral studies and the Dean’s Honors List (2021)
during his Masters. He also brings industry perspective from his tenure a
s an Associate System Engineer at IBM India. His current research interest
s lie at the intersection of data-driven workload-aware and autonomous res
ource configuration and management of resources in serverless cloud ecosys
tems.\n\nHost Faculty: Prof. Yogesh Simmhan\n\n\n\nABOUT: The IBM-IISc Hyb
rid Cloud Lab (IIHCL) hosted at IISc is curating the Cloud Computing Semin
ar series with guest speakers from Industry and Academia speaking about th
e latest technologies and research on Cloud and edge computing\, distribut
ed computing systems\, and AI/ML/Big Data platforms.\n\n\n\nALL ARE WELCOM
