SUMMARY:{Cloud Seminar} @ CDS: #102\, November 20\, 12:00: "Context-aware O
 ptimizations for Efficient Edge Computing"
DESCRIPTION:\n\nCLOUD COMPUTING SEMINAR SERIES\n\n\n\nTitle: Context-aware
Optimizations for Efficient Edge Computing\nSpeaker: Prof. Abhishek Chandr
 a\, University of Minnesota\, USA\nDate &amp\; Time : November 20\, 2025 (
 Thursday)\,12:00 Noon\nVenue: CDS 102 Seminar Hall\n\n\n\nABSTRACT\nRecent
years have seen the advent of edge computing---computing near the users a
t the edge of the network---fueled by the increasing generation of data fr
om mobile phones\, wearable devices\, and IoT sensors. Many emerging appli
cations across healthcare\, transportation\, social networking\, and busin
ess domains rely on extracting real-time information from such data. Howev
er\, deploying such edge-native applications is challenging due to limited
edge resources and energy constraints\, coupled with user mobility and re
al-time requirements. A key observation is that many edge applications are
context-dependent: they are often user-facing and rely on location\, time
\, and the environment. In this talk\, I will present our work that uses t
his context (application\, data\, and user information) to achieve resourc
 e efficiency\, low latency\, and accuracy in edge systems.\n\nBIOGRAPHY\nA
bhishek Chandra is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and E
ngineering at the University of Minnesota. His research interests are in t
he areas of Operating Systems and Distributed Systems\, with current focus
on performance\, energy\, and resource management in Cloud and Edge compu
ting\, Data analytics\, and Mobile/IoT systems. He received his B.Tech. fr
om IIT Kanpur\, India\, and M.S. and PhD from the University of Massachuse
tts Amherst\, USA. He is a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award\, IBM Faculty
Award\, Cisco Research Award\, and ACM Dissertation Award nomination. He
is also a co-author on multiple Best Paper/Poster Awards. Prof. Chandra ha
s served on the Editorial Boards for IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing\
, Springer Cluster Computing Journal\, and IEEE Transactions on Computers.
He is currently serving as the Program co-chair for ACM/IFIP Middleware 2
026\, and on the Steering Committees for IEEE IC2E (as co-chair) and ACM H
PDC conferences. In addition\, he has served in leadership roles for sever
al conferences: as General co-chair for ACM HPDC 2022\; as Program co-chai
 r for ACM/USENIX/IFIP Middleware 2026\, IEEE ICDCS 2021\, ACM HPDC 2018 an
 d IEEE IC2E 2018 conferences\; and as TPC Vice Chair for ICDCS 2016\, 2018
 \, 2020.\n\nHost Faculty: Prof. Yogesh Simmhan\n\n\n\nABOUT: The IBM-IISc
Hybrid Cloud Lab (IIHCL) hosted at IISc is curating the Cloud Computing Se
minar series with guest speakers from Industry and Academia speaking about
