SUMMARY:{Seminar} @ CDS: #102\, July 14th \,11:00: "Supercharging AI-Driven
Biomedical Data Science with Multimodal Foundation Models and Generative
 Deep Learning."
DESCRIPTION:Department of Computational and Data Sciences\nDepartment Semin
 ar\n\n\n\nSpeaker : Dr. Debswapna Bhattacharya\, Virginia Tech\, USA\nTitl
e   : "Supercharging AI-Driven Biomedical Data Science with Multimodal F
oundation Models and Generative Deep Learning"\nDate &amp\; Time : July 14
 th\, 2025 (Monday)\, 11:00 AM\nVenue : # 102\, CDS Seminar Hall\n\n\n\nABS
TRACT\n\nBuilding a model of a biological system that can provide actionab
le hypotheses to form a solid foundation for experimental and theoretical
analyses is one of the key challenges in biology and medicine. In this tal
 k\, I will present my group’s ongoing work in developing\, evaluating\,
and disseminating a new generation of computational methods for biomedical
data science empowered by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learni
ng (ML). First\, I will introduce a new generation of AI/ML methods for im
proved modeling and characterization of protein-nucleic acid assemblies by
deep graph learning using embeddings from large language models (LLMs) fo
r biology as well as geometric attention-enabled pairing of heterogeneous
 biological LLMs\, a previously unexplored avenue. Then\, I will present a
novel generative deep learning model based on equivariant flow matching fo
 r end-to-end generation of all-atom RNA 3D structural ensemble. Finally\,
I will outline my future research directions on attaining atomic-level acc
uracy in computational modeling of biomolecules and their assemblies at sc
ale.\n\nBIO: Debswapna Bhattacharya is an Associate Professor in the Depar
tment of Computer Science at Virginia Tech. His research interests are com
 putational biology\, bioinformatics\, machine learning\, and data science\
 , with a particular focus on AI-driven biomedical data science (AI4BIO). H
is research group has been developing novel computational and data-driven
methods\, software\, and information systems for diverse biological and me
dical problems\, ranking among the best methods in community-wide blind as
sessments and serving the worldwide community of biomedical users. He is a
recipient of the NSF CAREER Award\, NIH Maximizing Investigators' Researc
h Award (MIRA)\, and NSF National AI Research Resource Award.\n\nHost Facu
