Life Sciences Smt. Rukmini–Sri Gopalakrishnachar Chair (Visiting Profes
 sor)\n\nTitle   : "Quantum Machine Learning for multi-omics analysis"\nD
 ate &amp\; Time : July 24th\, 2025 (Thursday)\, 10:00 AM\n\nVenue : # 102\
 , CDS Seminar Hall\n\n\n\nABSTRACT\n\nSingle-cell and population-level mul
ti-omics analyses have greatly enhanced our understanding of biological co
mplexity. By integrating various types of biological data—such as genomi
 cs\, proteomics\, and transcriptomics\, collectively known as multi-omics
—these approaches have provided deep insights into the molecular mechani
sms underlying complex diseases\, both at the cellular level and across pa
tient populations. As the size and complexity of multi-omics data continue
s to grow\, the need to leverage emerging technologies such as AI and quan
tum computing also grows. Recently\, advances in quantum computing have sh
own promise in solving real-world problems in machine learning and optimiz
ation in biomedicine\, drug discovery\, biomarker discovery\, clinical tri
als\, among other healthcare and life sciences objectives. In this tutoria
 l lecture\, I will discuss (i) fundamental concepts of quantum computing\,
(ii) current state of quantum machine learning\, and (iii) some guideline
s on when to use quantum machine learning.\n\nBIO: Dr. Laxmi Parida is an
IBM Fellow at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center\, USA. She currentl
y leads a global team on Quantum for Healthcare Life Sciences (HCLS) and i
s the Smt. Rukmini–Sri Gopalakrishnachar Chair (visiting) at CDS\, IISc.
Previously\, she led the Science teams in the Cacao Consortium (with MARS
\, USDA)\, the Genographic Project with National Geographic\, the Sequence
the Food Supply Chain Consortium and the personalized cancer medicine sys
tem Watson for Genomics. Her research areas include population genomics\,
 cancer genomics\, plant genomics\, bioinformatics\, algorithms (including
AI) and topological data analysis and quantum computing for HCLS.\n\nHost
