SUMMARY:{Seminar} @ CDS: #102\, May 02nd \,11:00: "From Filters to Hash Tab
les: Rethinking Core Data Structures for Scalable Performance ."
DESCRIPTION:Department of Computational and Data Sciences\nDepartment Semin
 ar\n\n\n\nSpeaker : Dr. Prasant Pandey\, Northeastern University\, USA.\nT
itle : "From Filters to Hash Tables: Rethinking Core Data Structures for S
 calable Performance "\nDate &amp\; Time : May 02nd \, 2025 (Friday)\, 11:0
 0 AM\nVenue : # 102\, CDS Seminar Hall\n\n\n\nABSTRACT\n\nOur ability to g
enerate\, acquire\, and store data has grown exponentially over the past d
ecade making the scalability of data systems a major challenge. In this ta
lk\, I will present my work on addressing this challenge through novel dat
a structures and algorithms. First\, I will introduce Monotonic Adaptive F
ilters\, which address long-standing limitations in traditional filters by
dynamically adapting to false positives while guaranteeing a maximum fals
e positive rate\, regardless of the query distribution. Next\, I will disc
uss our advancements in modern hash tables\, including IcebergHT and Zombi
eHT\, which break traditional trade-offs by providing high performance wit
h strong worst-case latency guarantees.\n\nBIO: Pandey is an assistant pro
fessor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern Universi
ty. He focuses on creating scalable data systems with robust theoretical f
oundations. His work spans the entire spectrum of this challenge\, from ex
ploring the theoretical aspects of data structures to addressing the pract
ical issues of scaling data systems. His work extends to tackling scalabil
ity challenges across computational biology\, cybersecurity\, stream proce
ssing\, and storage systems. Pandey has received the NSF CAREER Award and
the IEEE-CS Early Career Researchers Award for Excellence in High Performa
nce Computing. Prior to joining Khoury College\, he spent a year as a rese
arch scientist at VMware Research and held postdoctoral research positions
at UC Berkeley and Carnegie Mellon University.\n\nHost Faculty: Dr. Chira
