SUMMARY:{Seminar} @ CDS: #102\, November 02nd: 04:00: "Two Decades at the F
 rontier of Supercomputing."
DESCRIPTION:Department of Computational and Data Sciences\nDepartment Semin
ar\n\n\n\nSpeaker : Dr. Sarat Sreepathi\nTitle : Two Decades at the Fronti
 er of Supercomputing\nDate &amp\; Time : November 02nd\, 2026 (Monday)\, 0
 4:00 PM\nVenue : # 102\, CDS Seminar Hall\n\n\n\nAbstract:\nThis talk will
summarize my experience with United States efforts in supercomputing over
the past twenty years. I will highlight the major milestones along the wa
y weaving together my research projects along with the broader strategic e
fforts. I will present an overview of computer architectures\, programming
models\, and application and algorithmic co-design approaches. Finally\,
I will present thoughts on the next phase of India's National Supercomputi
ng Mission and offer some strategies for building a sovereign scientific c
omputing ecosystem in India.\n\nBiography:\nSarat Sreepathi is a Computer
Scientist with 20 years of experience working on the world’s fastest sup
ercomputers. He recently joined C-DAC as a HPC Advisor to help in planning
for the National Supercomputing Mission. Until last year\, he was a senio
r scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory\, the largest laboratory for
open science in the United States. As Performance Coordinator for the Ener
gy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM) project (U.S. Department of Energy
’s flagship climate modeling effort)\, he led an interdisciplinary team
of scientists across national labs to focus on computational performance t
o build the first exascale climate model. His team won the inaugural ACM G
ordon Bell Prize for Climate Modeling.\n\nSee sarats.com for more details.
