~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Department of Computational and Data Sciences (CDS) Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore SEMINAR TITLE: Apache Hadoop and Yarn: Past, Present and Future SPEAKER: Varun Vasudev, HortonWorks DATE: TUE 07 MAR 2017 TIME: 330-5PM VENUE: CDS 102 ABSTRACT: Apache Hadoop and Yarn have revolutionized Big Data platforms over the last decade, and become the de facto software stack for handling large volumes of Big Data. Hadoop provides an implementation of the MapReduce programming model while YARN is the resource scheduler for Hadoop. These have been used by MapReduce applications, and as a base stack by other Big Data software such as HBase, Giraph, etc. This talk will offer a history of Hadoop/YARN, starting from its original days at Yahoo!, discuss Hadoop and YARN as it is right now, and about YARN going forward – what are the new things coming up, the kind of problems we’re looking to solve, etc. BIO: Varun Vasudev is a principal software engineer at Hortonworks working on the Apache Hadoop project. He's a committer and a PMC member of the Hadoop project working primarily on the YARN project. Before Hortonworks, he worked for Yahoo! on various search engineering teams working on different aspects of search such as multimedia search and the web crawler.
