Prashanthi S K, a PhD candidate from the DREAM: Lab at the CDS Department of IISc has been selected as one the MLCommons Rising Stars 2024. She is the first student from India to be recognized through this initiative.

MLCommons is an AI consortium led by global organizations like Nvidia, Meta, Google, Microsoft, AMD, etc. to foster academic and industry collaboration. The Machine Learning and Systems Rising Stas Program was launched by MLCommons in 2023 to identify and support a cohort of talented young researchers working at the intersection of ML and systems to build connections with a vibrant research community, engage with industry and academic experts, and develop their skills. This year, the second cohort of 41 Rising Stars were identified from over 170 applicants worldwide. These early career researchers have demonstrated excellence in Machine Learning (ML) and Systems research and stand out for their current and future contributions and potential.

Prashanthi is advised by Prof. Yogesh Simmhan. Her PhD research focuses on the systems aspects of Edge AI, particularly power and performance optimization, modeling and scheduling of deep learning workloads on edge devices. Her research has resulted in conference, workshop and doctoral symposium papers at leading venues such as SIGMETRICS, EuroSys, IPDPS, CCGRID and HiPC. She has received several awards and recognitions including the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF), Intel’s Department Recognition Award, and travel grants from Microsoft Research, ACM-W, IEEE TCPP, USENIX, SIGMETRICS and EuroSys.

Prashanthi will be presenting her research at the Rising Stars workshop happening at NVIDIA Headquarters in Santa Clara, CA, USA on July 15-16 2024.
