Title : Introducing AIOpsLab: A Testbed for AI Agents Automating Cloud Operations

Date & Time : March 28, 2025 (Friday), 12:00 Noon

Venue : #102, CDS Seminar Hall

ABSTRACT

In this talk, I will introduce AIOpsLab, a holistic framework to design, benchmark, and evaluate AI agents for automating cloud service operations at scale. As developers and researchers increasingly turn to AI agents to tackle complex operational tasks — like diagnosing and resolving performance and reliability issues in cloud services — they face a significant gap: the lack of standardized tasks, workloads and metrics that reflect the dynamic nature and complexity of real-world cloud services. AIOpsLab addresses this challenge by serving as a “SWE-Bench” for DevOps and Cloud Ops, offering a realistic and flexible “environment” for AI agents. It allows agents to interact with realistic tasks and it can be extended to new services, workloads, and faults easily.

SPEAKER’S BIO

Gagan Somashekar is a Senior Researcher in the M365 Research group at Microsoft, where he focuses on AI-driven operational resilience and efficiency for cloud services. He earned his PhD in optimizing the performance of large-scale microservices, specializing in configuration tuning and bottleneck detection, under the guidance of Anshul Gandhi at Stony Brook University. During his PhD, he interned in the cloud, platform, and systems groups at Google, Meta, and Microsoft Research. Prior to his PhD, he worked at Citrix in Bangalore for two years and holds a bachelor’s degree from RV College of Engineering, Bangalore.
