Abstract:
This talk will summarize my experience with United States efforts in supercomputing over the past twenty years. I will highlight the major milestones along the way weaving together my research projects along with the broader strategic efforts. I will present an overview of computer architectures, programming models, and application and algorithmic co-design approaches. Finally, I will present thoughts on the next phase of India’s National Supercomputing Mission and offer some strategies for building a sovereign scientific computing ecosystem in India.

Biography:
Sarat Sreepathi is a Computer Scientist with 20 years of experience working on the world’s fastest supercomputers. He recently joined C-DAC as a HPC Advisor to help in planning for the National Supercomputing Mission. Until last year, he was a senior scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the largest laboratory for open science in the United States. As Performance Coordinator for the Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM) project (U.S. Department of Energy’s flagship climate modeling effort), he led an interdisciplinary team of scientists across national labs to focus on computational performance to build the first exascale climate model. His team won the inaugural ACM Gordon Bell Prize for Climate Modeling.
